Pope Francis met with the President of the Republic of Togo. As the president entered they both greeted one another in French.
“Hello, how are you?”
“Thank you”.
During the meeting they discussed about the Catholic Church's role in education and healthcare; and its contribution to the “integral development of the Togolese population.”
In the presentation of gifts, the president gave to the pope this huge painting of African women carrying vases.
Pope Francis presented this sculpture along with his message of peace document. Along with these gifts were also included the document he signed with Imam of Al Azhar on human fraternity; and his Encyclicals as well as Apostolic Exhortations.
It was a cordial meeting and the president was accompanied by his mother. Pope Francis even helped her to the door as she was leaving, before finally saying goodbye to the president.
