Franciscan Peter Tabichi was awarded the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize 2019. In Kenya, he dedicates his life to being a science and math teacher.

At Keriko Secondary School, in Kenya, Peter Tabichi wants to make sure his students are cared for despite the lack of resources they face. He gives away 80 percent of his monthly income to help his students.

President Uhuru Kenyatta congratulated Peter for his important work.

UHURU KENYATTA
President of Kenya
“You are a shining example of what the human spirit can achieve, not just for Kenya, not just for Africa, but for the world.”

Peter focuses particularly on science and believes that embracing technology is extremely important in teaching. His efforts have led to his school winning national science competitions when up against some of the country’s best schools.

The Global Teacher Prize is part of the Varkey Foundation’s long-standing commitment to improve the status of teachers in the world. From all over the world 10 finalists were chosen, each of them improving the lives of children in incredible ways.
