Card. Orlando Beltran Quevedo has turned 80. He is Archbishop Emeritus of Cotabato, Philippines. It is located in Mindanao, an area with a large Muslim population. It has undergone violent struggles with Islamist separatist groups through the years.

“The archdiocese represents a microcosm of the entire problems of the entire Mindanao area. It's poverty, conflict, and underdevelopment. And you find that, with 47 percent Muslim and 48 percent Catholic in the archdiocese, so almost half and half.”

In 2014, after being elected cardinal by Pope Francis, Card. Quevedo spoke of the importance of communities based on dialogue and peace in Mindanao in order to ensure the future of his archdiocese.

In the past, he has also stressed the importance in using the Church's resources to help serve “justice, and of the poor, for the sake of the Kingdom of God.”

After a cardinal turns 80, they lose the right to vote in the next conclave. The number of voters now remaining are 122.
