In his Sunday Angelus, Pope Francis said that to love one's enemies is not an option but a command from Jesus. He even gave a tip on how to deal with someone who gossips.

POPE FRANCIS
“Remember the good things of people, and when someone gossips and speaks badly of another, say: 'But yes, maybe... but they did this that is good.' We overturn the discussion. This is the revolution of mercy.”

After the Angelus prayer, the pope commented on the four day Vatican Summit against abuses, which finished on Sunday. He stressed the need to restore the credibility and reliability of the Church in addressing abuses.

POPE FRANCIS
“We want all possible measures to be taken so that such crimes are not repeated. We want the Church to once again be absolutely credible and reliable in her mission of service; and education for children according to the teaching of Jesus.”

Pope Francis also mentioned the need for everyone to work together in order to tackle these crimes.

POPE FRANCIS
“Along with all people of good will and all the positive components and forces of society. In all countries and at an international level, to combat to the very end this serious scourge of violence against hundreds of millions of children, girls and boys, all over the world.”

During the Summit, the pope and all presidents of the episcopal conferences heard testimonies of abuse survivors; and focused on three main themes: responsibility, accountability and transparency.

The Vatican is now working toward proposing further concrete measures in tackling sexual abuses in the Church.
