Every year these Chilean pilgrims travel to Rome to see the pope, and Jerusalem to pray and to learn more about their Christian faith. They are from St. Rosa of the Andes parish in Chile.
They have been doing this pilgrimage since the pope emeritus' visit to Brazil in 2007. During his trip there, he invited all Christians to be missionary disciples of Christ.
ANDREA BARRERA GUERRERO
“He helped us start this pilgrimage 12 years ago.”
NELSON PINO SILVA
“We do missionary work by visiting homes and prisons with our parish. We also do a lot of apostolate work by helping others socially, fraternally and visiting hospitals too.”
Although Chile is not far from Panama, sadly these pilgrims were unable to attend WYD with Pope Francis.
However, despite not seeing him in Panama, they still managed to attend his General Audience. They were touched when Pope Francis mentioned the proud parents who presented him their many children in Panama.
NELSON PINO SILVA
“I am a father myself and yes it is true they are my pride. My daughters are my pride. They are a continuation of myself in this world.”
ANDREA BARRERA GUERRERO
“There is a a pride in being a parent and following the tradition of our Catholic faith.”
They found it also very touching that the pope even visited young prisoners in Panama. These pilgrims frequently work with inmates, so for them it is important not to forget those imprisoned.
NELSON PINO SILVA
“It is a world full of pain and suffering.” “It is true that they have committed crimes and sins. However, they are children of God.”
After touring around the Eternal City, they will commence their next religious adventure to the Holy Land.
