The pope's last public activity in 2018 will be the prayer “Te Deum” in St. Peter's Basilica at 5 p.m. Rome time. It is the prayer that Catholics pray to give thanks to God.
In this prayer, Pope Francis will thank God, in the name of the Church, for all that has occurred in 2018. This ceremony is usually attended by the local authorities of Rome.
As soon as he finishes, the pope will go to St. Peter's Square to see the Nativity scene up close, listen to some Christmas carols and greet pilgrims.
Afterwards, the pope will have dinner in the privacy of Casa Santa Marta residence.
It is foreseeable that he will then go to rest because on January 1 at 10 a.m. he will return to St. Peter's for his first Mass of the year. A very solemn ceremony to pray for peace in the world.
