This group of more than 100 Mexicans celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Rome. Their visit coincided with the General Audience and Pope Francis even greeted them.

POPE FRANCIS
“In a special way I greet Latin Americans and Mexicans on this day of our patron saint. Our Lady of Guadalupe.”

This group comes from three Mexican communities of the Neocatechumenal Way in Guadalajara. They have been organizing this trip to see the pope for months.

FR. XAVIER MAGDALENO
“When he mentioned Latin America and Mexico we were so happy and so excited, as you can already imagine. He then recognized our patron saint, Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose feast day we celebrate. Then he told us that we were louder than the Italians, so we were even happier.”

This couple had to leave their eight children in Mexico to travel to Rome. They say it was worth it and they are excited because they never imagined that the pope was going to say a few words to them.

“He extended his blessing to us, our families, and to each of our children. It was very exciting and emotional, we cheered him on. I also saw the pope was very happy when he spoke to the Mexicans. We were all very excited, we shouted a lot.” “It has been a grace that today, December 12, we got to be with the pope. This is because it is very special for us Mexicans, on the day of Our Lady, to consecrate ourselves in this way.”

Taking advantage of the fact that they are in Rome, they plan to participate in a Mass in St. Peter's Basilica. Then, they will take the buses to the airport to return home.
