The Vatican wants to demonstrate, through action, that to invest in family is to invest in the progress of society.
For this reason, it supported the creation of the International Observatory on Family. It already counts on the participation of 20 academic institutes from 15 countries, such as the International Center of Studies on Family, from Milan.
In the presentation, they acknowledged that the greatest contribution has come from the Catholic University of Murcia. The university has taken on the costs and is making their facilities available to the observatory.

“It is an ambitious project. Research requires significant financial and personnel resources. But it is vital, because if you do not know the reality, it is very difficult to find the right answers.”
JOSÉ LUIS MENDOZA PÉREZ
President, Catholic University St. Anthony of Murcia
'Take advantage of the new technologies God has placed in our hands to do the greatest good possible. Then there is more, in online teaching, distance learning. All this is going to be an enormous service for all these countries, especially Latin America because I have a lot of contact with them, from Africa, and from India; look at the situations that exist there. We are going to help them.”
The project has been underway since January. The idea is to provide qualitative, as well as quantitative, data.
An international study on poverty and family is already underway, which will cover economic poverty, as well as emotional and relational poverty. Furthermore, it will focus on three general areas: the role of women, the status of children, and the risks of new technologies.
The Observatory already offers some content in three languages on their website: www.familymonitor.net
