For one night the famous Italian city of Venice was converted into a symbol for the persecution and discrimination against Christians.
Once again, the Pontifical Foundation Aid to the Church in Need, brought attention to the situation suffered by thousands of Christians all over the world. They lit up the St. Mark's Basilica and the waters of the Grand Canal to represent the blood of all those Christians who died for their faith.
The event began with people praying the rosary through the streets of Venice. This video of Eisham, one of Asia Bibi's daughters, was shown to thank everyone for their prayers for her mother. She was freed at the beginning of November.
The pope also sent a message to the event, which he defined as a 'pro-life initiative.' Pope Francis insisted that more attention be paid to the persecution and discrimination of Christians throughout the world.
Once again, Aid to the Church in Need draws attention to this situation by illuminating an iconic monument in red. They have already done this in the past with other buildings throughout the world to sensitize people to the persecution of Christians.
