During Sunday's Angelus, in front of 20,000 people, the pope explained the difficult condition one has to accept to love and be loved.

“The way of love means to 'lose out', because to love means to leave selfishness, 'self-referential,' in order to serve others.”
Pope Francis commented on the Gospel of that day, which shows the competition among the disciples to see who would reach the highest position.
The pope explained that the antidote to this “racing” is the service that Christ proposes to his disciples.

“The way of service is the most effective antidote against the disease that comes from searching for the first place. It is a medicine against 'climbers.' This search for the first places spreads to many human circles and also to Christians, to the people of God and to the ecclesiastical hierarchy.”
Pope Francis recalled World Mission Sunday, which invites everyone to participate in the Church's mission. He said this year is dedicated to young people because of the youth synod.
He underlined how much he is impressed by the testimonies he is hearing at the synod. The stories of young people who meet God and who are capable of not separating themselves from Him, despite obstacles in life.
