President of Albania visits Pope Francis

The president of Albania, Ilir Meta, traveled to the Vatican to meet with Pope Francis.

“It is a great honor for me and for my country.”

The meeting, held behind closed doors, lasted about 20 minutes.

According to the Vatican, they've faced issues of common interest such as the promotion of peaceful coexistence and of inter-religious and intercultural dialogue. 

The president gave the pope this icon of Our Lady of Tenderness. The pope gifted him his encyclical on caring for the environment. 

The president traveled to Rome with his two daughters, who followed Vatican protocol very well.
