During Sunday's Angelus, Pope Francis made yet another appeal for peace in Syria and asked for help from the international community.
POPE FRANCIS
“This is painful: there are still the winds of war and unsettling news about the risk of a possible humanitarian catastrophe in beloved Syria, in the Province of Idlib. I renew my heartfelt appeal to the international community and to all the actors involved to make use of the instruments of diplomacy, dialogue and negotiations, in compliance with international humanitarian law and to safeguard the lives of civilians.”
This plea accompanies the UN's recent request for Russia, Iran and Turkey to forestall a battle in Idlib which could affect millions.
The pope also reflected on the Gospel of the Day, warning people not to be caught up in the world. He defined true religion as visiting orphans and widows, not isolating oneself or being polluted by sin.
POPE FRANCIS
“The hypocrite is a liar, he is not authentic. In reality, a man or woman who lives in vanity, avarice, pride and at the same time believes and makes himself seen as religious and even condemns others, is a hypocrite.”
The pope concluded saying that the Word of God can purify the heart, ones actions and ones relationships with God and others.
