The Olio app is an initiative aiming to put an end to wasting perfectly good food. Between 33 and 50 percent of food produced worldwide ends up in the trash.
The platform is very easy to use. Instead of throwing food away, one shares a picture of it on the app. Later, other users can accept it and come pick it up.
In addition, the Olio team contacts distributors, retailers or catering businesses to pick up left-over food and give it away via the app. They also work with FareShare, the largest food redistribution charity in the UK, with the goal of eliminating waste.
The platform is supported through private donations. According to its statistics, it receives 200 weekly donations from various companies. The community continues to grow, seeking to spread awareness of the 815 million people who go to sleep hungry every day. The app can be downloaded in the App Store and Google Play.
