Pope Francis explained the true meaning of faith. He said it doesn't just consist of pleasing God with works, but of believing in whom He sent, Christ. Therefore, he warned of a common temptation among believers.

POPE FRANCIS
“This is a common temptation: to reduce religion to the practice of laws, projecting on our relationship with God the image of the relationship between servants and their master.”

Before the 20,000 who endured the Roman heat, the pope said that, although many followed Jesus, because he met their immediate needs, Christ came to bring something else.

POPE FRANCIS
“Jesus came to bring us something more: to open our existence to a wider horizon than the daily preoccupations of eating, of dressing, of careers and so on.”

For this reason, Pope Francis insisted that Christ doesn't only want people to seek him, but to know him, to have a relationship of love and trust with God in order to carry out his works.

POPE FRANCIS
“He, the true 'bread of life,' wants to satiate not only bodies, but also souls, giving the spiritual food that can satisfy the greatest hunger. ”

Before bidding farewell, the pope wanted to remember that August 6 marks the 40th anniversary of Paul VI's death, who will be canonized in October. As a gesture of recognition and affection, he asked for applause for Pope Montini, in which all the pilgrims in St. Peter joined.
