The pope has sent his condolences to the victims of the collapse of a dam that on Monday night caused a great flood in Laos.
The tragedy has caused the death and disappearance of hundreds of locals.
The telegram written by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, on behalf of the pope, Francis sends “encouragement and blessings” to the wounded that they will recuperate soon and as comfort to “those who have suffered the loss of their loved ones and fear the lives of those who are still missing.”

To the local ecclesiastical and civil authorities Having learned with sadness of the loss of life and of the injury caused by the serious floods following the collapse of a hydroelectric dam in southeast Laos, His Holiness Pope Francis expresses heartfelt solidarity with all those affected by this disaster. His Holiness prays especially for the repose of the deceased, the healing of those injured and the consolation of all those who grieve the loss of their loved ones and who fear for the lives of those still missing. The Holy Father likewise offers encouragement to the civil authorities and all those involved in the search and rescue efforts as they assist the victims of this tragedy. To all he sends his blessing.
