Alexia González-Barros died in 1985 at the age of 14, following 10 months of severe illness.
Many described her as a cheerful and courageous young girl. Everyone was surprised by the attitude with which she faced her illness.

“In one of the hospitals, a religious woman seeing how well Alexia conducted herself said; 'Alexia, how brave you are!' And she answered; 'No, Sister Patro, it's just that God helps me.'”
Her father had a film camera and made some homemade movies that show her cheerfulness. However, she had a special sensitivity and many people asked her for help.

“Many people in the hospital visited her asking her to pray for their intentions. In the end, there were so many intentions that she wrote them all and had them in an envelope. After receiving Communion she would hold the envelope tight to herself praying for those intentions.”
With this decree, the pope recognizes the exemplary life of this girl and proposes her as an example to people of all ages.

“It's nice that the Pope has approved this decree along with other decrees a few months before the Synod of Bishops that will be held in October. This is because it shows young people that they can be saints. Of the other three decrees, two are from Italy, one 23 and another15 years old.”
The recognition of the “heroic virtues” is an important step in the process of beatification. Now, the postulator must present a miracle attributed to the intercession of Alexia for her to beatified.
