These images are from Saturday. The cardinal and nuncio went to the Divine Mercy parish to rescue 100 students who were attacked by a paramilitary group throughout the night. One of the young people died. His classmates bid him farewell with the Nicaraguan national anthem.
For hours, many prayed the worst would not occur. The parish still bore traces of what has occurred.
Today in the church, they're praying for peace.
Yesterday, another bishop was threatened, and although the situation seems to have calmed, the Church is calling for the Nicaraguan government to demonstrate interest in achieving peace and call off paramilitary groups.
