Italian Angelo Becciu has been named prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
He is currently number three of the Vatican, as 'Substitute of the Secretary of State,' the pope's closest collaborator in the Curia; and will continue to be until June 29.
He will also remain the pope's Special Delegate to the Order of Malta, where he is collaborating in the revision of its statutes.
Angelo Becciu was born in Sardinia almost 70 years ago. He has been nuncio in Angola and Cuba. Benedict XVI appointed him as substitute for the Secretary of State in 2011, a position he has held up to now. In addition, he will be named cardinal at the end of June.
