POPE FRANCIS
July 9, 2015
'That economy kills. That economy excludes.'
After hearing strong statements like this, some have called Pope Francis a 'communist.' However, communication experts such as Michele Zanzucchi argue that labeling the pope as such is wrong.

'Bergoglio's thinking is radically evangelical. It is based on the Gospel of the poor. His statements are not, shall we say, sociological, they are always evangelical, theological statements. This should never be forgotten.'

In fact, Pope Francis has written the preface to his book 'Power and Money. Social justice according to Bergoglio.'

'I told him that I was interested in developing his thoughts on power and money, about the mechanisms of finance that influence the global public. The pope told me: I'm very interested in this, go ahead. I give you my blessing. I will write the preface. In this preface, he adds to what he's already said in his speeches: it is important to introduce the theological virtues into economic life. Hope, charity and faith are a model that can and should also work in the economy.'

Michele Zanzucchi explains that the pope's economic and social thinking clashes squarely with the worst side of globalization: that which reduces people to consumers of goods, benefiting a few, whose only interest is to enrich their lives.

It is necessary to understand that globalization, through the control of the mechanisms of political and economic power, conditions our consciences. That is why the pope warns: Beware; be careful not to be manipulated.'

'Globalization is not bad. FLASH. If a globalization aims to equalize everyone, as if it were a sphere, this globalization destroys the wealth and uniqueness of each person and each population.'

Pope Francis looks with concern at the paradoxes of globalization: a more-connected world that, instead of improving the opportunities of the weakest, takes advantage of them to benefit a few.
