The pope concluded the last of his four meetings with the Chilean bishops at 6:40 p.m. this Thursday. Pope Francis gave them a letter in which he thanked them for their presence in Rome to make a frank discernment in the face of the serious events that have damaged the ecclesial communion and weakened the work of the Church of Chile in recent years.
The pope assures, in his letter that with the 34 Chilean bishops he was able to deepen the seriousness of these painful events as well as the tragic consequences that they have had particularly for the victims.
To some of them I myself have asked forgiveness from my heart, to which you have united in a single will and with the firm intention of repairing the damage caused, the pope explains.
Finally Pope Francis thanks the bishops for their openness to adhere and collaborate in all those changes and resolutions that we will have to implement in the short, medium and long term, necessary to restore justice and ecclesial communion.'
