The Neocatechumenal Way arrived in Rome 50 years ago, and is now preparing for a celebration whose guest list will include the pope.
The encounter will begin at 11 a.m. at Tor Vergata, where World Youth Day 2000 took place. More than 150,000 people are expected to attend from the 135 countries where the Way is present.
There, Pope Francis will send 36 new “missio ad gentes,” groups of families with a priest who will evangelize in areas where the Church has less of a presence. They must start new lives in other countries. They will most likely hear what the Holy Father told other similar families in 2016:

“I'm staying here, but my heart is going with you all.”
During the celebration, the memory will be very present of Carmen Hernández, co-founder of the Neocatechumenal Way along with Kiko who died on July 19, 2016.
The Neocatechumenal Way was founded in Spain in the late 1960s.
