May is the month the Church traditionally dedicates to the Virgin Mary, and the pope will visit a very popular Roman sanctuary – the Divine Love. It's a shrine located 20 kilometers south of the city.
Its story dates back to 1745, when a pilgrim being persecuted by a pack of dogs called upon the Virgin Mary. The animals calmed down immediately. Since then, it's become one of the most-beloved sanctuaries for people from the area.
Pope Francis will arrive at 5 p.m. and pray the rosary with the pilgrims present. Benedict XVI was the last pope to visit the sanctuary, doing so in 2006.
