Since 2000, the Sunday following Easter Sunday is recognized as Divine Mercy Sunday by the Catholic Church. This year, Pope Francis will honor the day by celebrating Mass in St. Peter's Square at 10:30 a.m. and meeting with the Missionaries of Mercy for the second time.
The Missionaries of Mercy are a group of more than 1,000 Catholic priests that during the 2016 jubilee year traveled the world and forgave the gravest sins. Coming from every continent, they either volunteered or were appointed by their bishops and superiors.
After this particular year of mercy, Pope Francis prolonged their role, encouraging them not to forget they too are sinners, even though they have a special mission to bring reconciliation to those most in need.
