During the Mass of the Lord's Supper, Pope Francis washed the feet of 12 prisoners from the Regina Coeli Prison in Rome. They're 12 men of different nationalities and faiths: four Italians, two from the Philippines, two from Morocco, one Moldavan, a Colombian, a Nigerian and one from Sierra Leone. Eight of them are Catholic, two are Muslim, one is Orthodox and one is Buddhist.
This isn't the first time the pope has washed the feet of prisoners on the day of brotherly love. During his first Holy Week as pope in 2013, Pope Francis held this ceremony in the Casal de Marmo youth detention center; in 2015, he also celebrated Mass and washed feet in the Rebbibia prison. Last year, the Holy Father presided over this ceremony in the Paliano prison.
