'This event is meant to remind the world that the Gospel of the Family is good news and it is an occasion for Christian families to meet and share experiences. They can feel the warmth and proximity of other families from other continents, environments, and places that could not be found any other way.'

The Meeting will begin August 21, and from the 22nd to the 24th there will be a World Congress. The pope will participate in a festival with families on the 25th and on Sunday he will celebrate the closing Mass.

The theme of the week will be his Apostolic Exhortation about love, 'Amoris Laetitia.'

''The Gospel of the Family,' as the pope says, is that joy that sometimes the world does not contain. It's living the family life fully, where in the family there is surrender, donation, forgiveness, love is being lived out for the other. This is what we want Christian families to transmit to the world and to society in general, at the Dublin meeting.'

John Paul II launched these meetings in 1994, during the International Year of the Family convened by the UN. Every three years, the popes invite families to meet somewhere in the world. The last time was in Philadelphia, in September 2015.
