They excitedly awaited the pope in the Mother of the Holy Cross house. There, Pope Francis ate with 11 inhabitants of Araucanía following the Mass he celebrated in the Temuco Airfield.

Among the 11 diners, eight were Mapuche representatives. They were joined by a victim of rural violence, a descendant of Swiss-German colonizers and a Haitian immigrant.

“Welcome and enjoy.”

Seated at the same table, the Holy Father and his guests shared lunch and experiences while sampling a menu of Tuscan bread, mushroom ragout, octopus carpaccio, Grana Padano cheese and toasted bread, seafood, osso buco with saffron rice and flan for dessert.

Later came the photos, greetings and also special blessings.

As he was leaving, Pope Francis continued to smile and pose for photos. The nuns and house workers couldn't miss the opportunity to take their own photo with the pope, who returned to Santiago following this intense visit to Temuco.
