'Let them kiss, let the couple kiss!'

No, it is not a joke. Pope Francis conducted a wedding ceremony for this couple on a plane. It's the first time something like this has happened in history.

Carlos and Paula were civilly married and have two daughters. They had attempted to get married in the church in 2010, but the ceremony was canceled because of a strong earthquake.

This document proves it was official, yet off the cuff. The necessary witnesses were present as well, as the plane was full of people.

The journalists aboard who witnessed it were exultant with joy.

'He asked us and that was the moment. That’s how it happened, he thought of it.'

'He told us, ‘This is the sacrament the world is missing.’ The sacrament of marriage. Hopefully this will motivate the couples around the world to enter into the sacrament of marriage. That's why I am doing this.'

Pope Francis did not just celebrate the wedding, but also offered them advice for the future. He said to look for balance, which is achieved little by little.

'He also told us that we should not use wedding bands that are too tight because they are like torture. But, if we used really loose ones, they will fall off. So we had to be careful.'

To eliminate any confusion, the Vatican spokesman confirmed that the sacrament was totally valid.

After this small, but important break the newlyweds returned to work.

“Please take your seats, we will secure the cockpit for landing.”
