In this press release, the Vatican bank declared the dismissal of its no. 3 representative “fully legitimate” and “part of normal administration procedures.”
The organization assures it hasn't disclosed the reasons for the firing “in order to protect the involved parties” and that “many of the details published by the media are incorrect.”
Giulio Mattietti, the bank's deputy-director, was dismissed last Monday, November 27. As a sign of solidarity, his coworkers accompanied him to the door of the Vatican.
Some media outlets mistook the colleagues for police escorts.
