A few hours after returning from his trip to Myanmar and Bangladesh, Pope Francis prayed the Angelus in St. Peter's Square, also thanking those who had prayed for his visit.
The pope gave a special prayer for the Honduran people, who face a difficult crisis after the latest presidential election.
POPE FRANCIS
“In my prayer, I especially remember the people of Honduras and pray they can peacefully overcome the current moment of difficulty.”
As it was the first Sunday of Advent, Pope Francis reflected on the importance of being prepared for the coming of the Lord.
POPE FRANCIS
'Being alert and vigilant are the preconditions to allow God to break into our existence, to restore meaning and value to His presence, which is full of goodness and tenderness.”
The pope also explained someone who is vigilant is capable of appreciating the beauty of each day and responding to the painful situations in the world with love.
POPE FRANCIS
“The attentive person also sets out into the world, trying to contrast the indifference and cruelty found in it, and rejoicing in the beautiful treasures that also exist in it and must be protected.”
From his window, Pope Francis could observe the progress on the preparation of the square's Christmas tree and Nativity scene, which will both be ready in time for a special inauguration on Thursday.
