This was the first greeting between the pope and the President of Peru, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.

'Good morning, Mr. President.'

'Your holiness, how are you?'

'Welcome.'

'It's a pleasure.'

Then came the moment to take the official photos of the meeting.

'What a lovely library!'

During the visit, the two leaders met behind closed doors for about 25 minutes.

The Vatican called the meeting 'cordial' and said it shows 'the good relations between the Holy See and the Republic of Peru.'

In addition to confirming that the pope will travel to Peru in January, during the meeting they spoke about issues such as 'education of the young, protection of the environment, development, the fight against poverty and some regional and international situations.'

The president gave him an image of Our Lady the Undoer of Knots made in Cuzco, and an Incan baton 'varayoc.'

The pope gave him a medal with the sculpture of the olive tree as a symbol of unity and peace.

'With two branches, and this is the emptiness of disunion and of wars... So your work is one that unites, more and more.'

After the meeting, the pope accompanied the president and his wife to the door of his study. They both left very excited.

'See you in Lima.'

'See you in Lima.'

'See you in Lima.'

'Pray for me.'

'Thank you, Your Holiness. Thank you for coming to Peru.'
