Indian priest Tom Uzhunnalil has been freed after being held captive for almost 18 months by a guerrilla group in Yemen.
Shushma Swaraj, Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced it on her Twitter account.
“I am happy to announce that Father Tom Unzhunnalil has been freed,” her message read.
Father Tom was kidnapped on March 4, 2016 when a terrorist group attacked an elderly home in Yemen, assassinating sixteen people in the process, four of whom were clergy.
Last Christmas, his kidnappers published a video in which the priest asked for help from the pope, bishops and the Indian government.
