A few hours after hearing about the terrible attack that shocked the city of Barcelona, Pope Francis sent a statement in which he expressed his condolences.
'The Holy Father is following with great concern what is happening in Barcelona,' says the note.
A few minutes after five in the afternoon, a van broke into a central city street, Las Ramblas, trampling dozens of people in its wake. As a result, 13 people were killed and more than 100 injured.
The pope said in the communication that 'he prays for the victims of this attack and wishes to express his closeness to all Spanish people, especially those wounded and the families of the deceased.'
Another attack occurred in the town of Cambrils, Spain in the early morning where seven people have been injured and one declared dead at this point. Five terrorists have also been killed in relation to the attack.
