With this statement, the Vatican announced that they are opening their archives, and those of the Argentine Episcopal Conference, for the period of the military dictatorship, between 1976 and 1983, but only for victims and their relatives.
The process of digitization is complete, so they will be able to access them remotely.

'No, this is not a total opening of the archives, obviously, the most important thing are the victims themselves, those directly involved. They're able to consult, either people who were victims themselves or the direct family members who were 'desaparecidos' or also those detained.â?
The Argentine Episcopal Conference started this process, sponsored by Pope Francis, several years ago.
After Pope Francis took office, many people in Argentina asked him to push for the opening of the archives, since they could contain valuable information regarding many disappearances that took place during the Videla dictatorship in Argentina.
