At the end of the General Audience, Pope Francis once again showed his concern for Syria. The pope 'implored' that a ceasefire is decreed to allow at least the evacuation of civilians, especially children.
The war in Syria began in March 2011 and has so far claimed more than 300,000 lives.
THE POPE PLEADS:
'I want to underline and reiterate my closeness to all the victims of the inhumane conflict in Syria. It is with a sense of urgency that I renew my appeal, begging those responsible, with all my strength, for an immediate ceasefire, to be decreed and respected at least for the time necessary to allow the evacuation of civilians, especially all children who are trapped under cruel bombing.'
