Slavery has not ended and very few people know. According to the UN and the International Labor Organization there are currently more than 21 million people who are victims of human trafficking.

Many of these people are refugees and 53 percent of the women are trafficked for prostitution. This is the reality that Anna Pozzi describes in her latest book 'Slavers.'

'I remember a women who was brutally beaten, they put a plastic bag over her head and they threw her on the street in a garbage bag where she had been forced into prostitution for years. It is an obvious problem but many cannot see because they are looking the other way.'

Anna Pozzi is the General Secretary of 'Slaves No More, an organization that tries to rescue women who are victims of prostitution. She notes that the Pope has been one of the main leaders in helping educate the world about this problem.

Her book points out that only in Italy the market of illegal prostitution earns between 250 and 600 million euros per month. Around the world, human trafficking earns about 32 billion dollars a year.

'Slaves No More
'Today, human trafficking is one of the main illegal businesses that is very profitable, as much as drug  or weapon trafficking. Human trafficking is more prominent in Europe, and in recent times it has become the main illegal business.'

The journalist stressed that the Pope has been one of the main leaders in helping educate the world about this problem.

In recent years, many people such as judges, mayors and even non-Christian religious leaders have traveled to the Vatican to sign pledges against human trafficking. This problem, according to Pope Francis, is one of the greatest crimes against humanity.
