For 20 years, Aralma has been a relief center in Buenos Aires serving children, adolescents, and adults who have suffered abuse. Recently, the center received an unexpected letter. It came from Pope Francis.
SONIA ALMADA
Director, Aralma Center
'I opened it, read it, and then shared it with the whole team. They were all very excited to know that their hard work and sacrifice had received the recognition of a world leader like Pope Francis.â?
In the letter, the pope encouraged the employees at the center to continue with their work with children.
According to a recent study in Argentina, about 9,122 children were abused in 2015.
The global figures are worse. According to UNICEF, six out of 10 children suffer physical abuse on a daily basis. Every five minutes, one of them dies.

'The whole team was very excited, even the children of Aralma. We published the letter, within the institution as well, everyone knows that Pope Francis wrote us because he supports this cause and clearly they would all like to meet him personally.â?
The center has created a campaign called #Lavozdeloschicxs by denouncing abused children and adolescents in Argentina.
