On Friday, Pope Francis met with newly-appointed bishops from all over the world inside of the Vatican's Clementine Hall.

'I am pleased to welcome you and to share with you some thoughts that come to the heart of the Successor of Peter when I see before me those who have been fished, that is, caught by the love of Godâ??s surprising mercy to guide his Holy People.â?
There, the pope greeted the participants from the college of bishops that are in Rome for an annual training course organized jointly by the Congregation for Bishops and the Congregation for Eastern Churches.

'He spoke to us especially about the role of bishop in mercy. Making it tangible. He was saying that people can ignore a distant God but I think when you make mercy tangible that's when you are confronted with the love of God.â?
Father Richard Umbers, an Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney was in attendance and recalls his encounter with the pope and his experience while attending the bishops training course.

'I would love for people to ask me about faith and reason because we live in a society that has almost lost hope in reason. I think you need faith to really put your trust in the power of human reason. Even though, we know that faith is light that goes even further than where human reason can reach.â?
Pope Francis also reminded the the new bishops to channel God's love and 'make mercy pastoralâ? which is the ultimate mission of every bishop.
