Pope Francis meets with the new Chilean ambassador

On Thursday, the new Chilean ambassador to the Holy See presented his credentials to Pope Francis.

Francisco Mariano Fernández Amunátegui brought his family to the meeting with Pope Francis, who welcomed the Ambassador's granddaughters. 

The diplomat introduced the pope to the whole Chilean delegation, and there
was laughter and smiles all around.

Fernandez brought several gifts for the pope, including a very special one from President Michelle Bachelet.

'Chilean wine is very good.�

The delegation also gave him the national soccer team jersey and several books. 

The pope, in return, gave the Ambassador copies of his most important works.

Francisco Mariano Fernández Amunátegui has been a diplomat since the 1960s and he has been an ambassador in Madrid and Washington D.C.
