Pope Francis held a meeting on May 12, 2016, inside of Paul VI hall with the Plenary Assembly of Superiors General; there he accepted to 'set up an official commission that would study the issueâ? of the Diaconate women, 'especially with regard to the early days of the Church.â?
According to the Vatican, 'after intense prayer and reflectionâ?, the Pope has decided to establish a Commission for the Study of the Diaconate of Women, appointing as president archbishop Luis Ladaria Ferrer, who is the Secretary of Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
He has also named the following as members of the commission:
