The intense summer heat did not prevent them from carrying a heavy cross to Saint Peter's

Mercy is not measured by the distance in miles driven. So, while these pilgrims have not traveled a great distance, they are happy because they will cross the Holy Door.

They come from Bergamo, in northern Italy. They are in Rome because this year the national meeting of the brotherhood in collaboration is held here.

We join them as they reach the final stretch of the walk along the road that begins at the Castel Sant'Angelo and ends at the Holy Door.

FRANCESCO
'We are a part of this pilgrimage because of Pope Francis' invitation. We are a group of lay people from Bergamo who venerate the Blessed Luigi
Palazzollo and have felt the call to make this path of mercy and forgiveness that the Pope has  asked of us. For us, it is a very important event.â?

These pilgrims know the Jubilee well. They come because they want to cross the Holy Door and confess and gain the plenary indulgence.

They are happy and will return with the idea of a counseling experience to share with their friends.

POPE FRANCIS
'Our friends are scattered around the world, we will see if they can also come.

They are brave because they have resisted the strong heat ravaging Rome, carrying this cross, singing and praying towards Saint Peter's Basilica.

And they have done so convinced that the Jubilee of Mercy is worth it.
