It is the first anniversary of the Pope's visit to Paraguay, and its president Horacio Cartes wanted to thank the high-ranking representatives of the Vatican whose work was crucial to the success of the trip.
Paraguay's Ambassador to the Holy See awarded Alberto Gasbarri, former coordinator of papal travels, with the National Order of Merit.
Domenico Giani, chief of the Gendarmerie Corps of the Vatican State, received the same honor. He rarely speaks in public, but he made an
exception this time to thank and congratulate the Paraguayan security forces.
DOMENICO GIANI
Inspector General of the
Gendarmeria Vaticana
'It is not an easy task. With Pope Francis, as you all know, it is extremely easy, in the sense that you have to improvise everything.â?
The ambassador also decorated Father Federico Lombardi, spokesman for the Vatican, who read a few words in Guarani, and Guzmán Carriquirry, the Vice-president of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America.
The President of the Episcopal Conference of Paraguay and Archbishop of Asunción, Edmundo Valenzuela, also thanked the honorees in the name of Catholics in Paraguay.
The Embassy concluded the ceremony with a documentary of the Pope's trip to this South American country. Truly, a memorable way of saying thank you.
