The Pope will name seven new saints on October 16th. The name of two of them was already known, Fr. Brochero of Argentina and the Mexican Cristero child, Jose Sánchez del Río.
During this meeting with Cardinals, he announced that the same day, he will also canonize Elisabeth of the Trinity, a French Discalced Carmelite who died at 26 years old due to Addison's disease. Although she could only devote five years to religious life, she had demonstrated her vocation before by teaching catechism and helping the underprivileged.
The second saint is the Spanish Manuel Gonzalez. He was bishop of Malaga and Palencia and died in 1940. Before he founded the Eucharistic Union and the Eucharistic Missionaries of Nazareth.
Pope Francis will also canonize Salomone Leclercq, a French martyr of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in La Salle, who was killed in the courtyard of his convent in Paris during the French Revolution.
They conclude the list of new saints with Italian priests, Lodovico Pavoni and Alfonso Maria Fusco. Pavoni founded the Congregation of the Sons of Mary Immaculate, while Fusco began the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint John the Baptist.
Interestingly the two Italian priests and Spanish Manuel Gonzalez were beatified by John Paul II at the beginning of the century. However, Elisabeth of the Trinity has been waiting since 1984 and Blessed Salomone Leclercq since 1926.
