During the Sunday Angelus, Pope Francis reflected on the millions of children that have either been killed, displaced or orphaned as a result of Syriaâ??s ongoing, five-year civil war.

POPE FRANCIS

'Next Wednesday, June 1, on the occasion of International Children's Day, the Christian communities of Syria, both Catholic, and Orthodox, live together a special prayer for peace, which will have as its protagonist's children.'

After celebrating Mass for the Jubilee of Deacons, the Pope sent his condolences and showed his support to the many children and families suffering from these tragedies.

POPE FRANCIS

'The Syrian children invite children from around the world to join their prayer for peace.'

The Pope urged children around the world to join along with their peers in Syria in praying for peace on  a special June 1st prayer event, promoted by Aid to the Church in Need, which takes place on International Childrenâ??s Day.

POPE FRANCIS

'I also remember today's National Day of Relief, aimed at helping people to live well the final stage of earthly existence.'

He concluded by also inviting all faithful to invoke the intercession of the Virgin Mary and later greeted the deacons and pilgrims that accompanied him in St. Peter's Square on this special jubilee.
