Pope meets with President of Singapore: â??Climate change is a big problemâ?

On Saturday, Pope Francis meet with the President of Singapore, Tony Tan Keng Yam, who was accompanied by his wife.

'Nice to meet you.�

Despite the 35 year diplomatic relationship between the Holy See and Singapore, this is the first state visit by the Singaporean president. Both leaders discussed the good relations between the Holy See and Singapore, as well as the collaboration between Church and State and of course the impact of climate change on the environment. 

'It's a problem.�
'It's a big problem.�

After the meeting, the president of Singapore gave the pope a blueprint of Singapore's Gardens by the Bay nature park, and a book of about the country's exotic flowers.

'Singapore is a Garden City.�

Pope Francis, in turn, gave the President of Singapore a peace medallion and describe its meaning by joining with government officials from all over the world and bringing people together. 

'A message of peace... I think it's very meaningful.�

The Pope also gave President Tan a copy of his encyclical Laudato si'.

The meeting was brief and cordial. Both leaders parted with a warm goodbye.
