This September, the Archdiocese of Omaha will be sponsoring a Catholic Artists Conference. The Conference will be anchored by the U.S. debut of the European Faces of Christ Collection, which will feature 85 pieces of art by 30 different international artists.

The mission of this exhibit is to promote modern-day artists who create their pieces not for monetary or commercial gain, but instead, to express the message of Christ.

Curator, Faces of Christ Collection
'I'm searching for artists that work in a continuity with the past, and not copying the past. Also, artists that are not part of what I will call the 'establishment of financial art.' That is, this small circuit of auction houses in London, New York...very new, rich people who buy awful works of art which don't really serve Christ.'

Steen Heidemann, the curator of the collection, was converted to Catholicism at a young age when he was struck by the beauty of the Westminster Cathedral upon passing by.

'I fell on my back, completely touched by the Holy Spirit, without really understanding much about it.

He hopes that the artwork in this Collection will present an opportunity for people to be touched by Christ in the same way. Additionally, Heidemann hopes to add more mediums of art to his collection, including architecture, sculptures, and photos.

The exhibit will travel to 12 other cities throughout the United States.
