One of the most recognizable places in Rome, the Trevi Fountain, was dyed red in honor of the Christian martyrs.
The initiative was promoted by Aid to the Church in Need. Among those present was its president, Cardinal Mauro Piacenza, the Chaldean Catholic bishop of Aleppo, Msgr. Antoine Audo, and Syrian Catholic Patriarch of Antioch in Lebanon, Ignace Younan.
The last time the emblematic monument served to pay tribute was in March for the victims of the Brussels bombings. On that occasion, the Belgian flag was projected on the mythical fountain.
