The Pope's week will begin to speed up on Wednesday, May 4th, ;at 9:50 am. Pope Francis will hold a General Audience where he will greet the pilgrims present and deliver a catechesis.
On Thursday, May 5th, at 6:00 pm, he will hold a Prayer vigil for all those in need of consolation in Saint Peter's Basilica. ;
On Friday, May 6th, starting at noon, in the Regal Room of the Vatican, German Chancellor Angela Merkel will attend the delivery of the Charlemagne Prize to Pope Francis. He has been awarded the Prize for 2016 in recognition of his efforts at global peace, cross-cultural understanding and unity of Europe. ;
At 5:00 pm, the new Swiss Guard recruits will take their Oath of Loyalty in the historic St. Damaso Courtyard within the Vatican. Pope Francis will not be in attendance. ;
On Sunday, May 8th, the week will conclude with the traditional Regina Coeli prayer. The Pope will appear at the window of the papal apartments at noon to lead the prayer with pilgrims in the square.
