Saint Pedro Poveda has come to the Vatican. Rather, it is his story that has been made into a movie, appropriately titled, 'Poveda'. The film tells the life of the Spanish priest who in the early twentieth century revolutionized education by giving opportunities to the poorest and women, two groups for whom all doors were closed.
RAí?L ESCUDERO
Actor, 'Poveda'
'He was a person who listened to everyone and treated everyone equally. Those that were closest to him either shared the same ideological faith or not. He was a person who worked hard on the rights for all.â?
PAUL MORENO
Director, 'Poveda'
'Poveda is a great teacher and also a great humanist. Why is he a great humanist? Because he puts us all as equals: Men, women, poor, rich, middle class, workers, politicians, etc. All gather around the same table in order to share dialogue and seek to make the world a better place.â?
Cardinal Santos Abril and Guzman Carriquiry, vice president of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, among others were in attendance at the premiere of the film in the Vatican Film Library. Indeed, the film will be premiered in Latin America, following its successful release in Spain.
Pedro Poveda founded the Teresian Association, which promotes educational projects in over 30 countries worldwide. The priest was killed during the religious persecution of the 1930s in Spain and canonized in 2003 by Pope John Paul II.
