Benedict XVI turns 89-years-old. He will celebrate in silence, with the same discretion that he has lived since renouncing his pontificate, three years ago.
Benedict XVI
'With full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome.â?
Since then, he has rarely been seen in public. The last time was on December 8th at the opening of the Holy Door, during the inauguration of the Jubilee.
Lately, Benedict XVI's new mission has consisted on teaching the work of a Pope Emeritus. He says that his only task is to help the new Pope, and so with great discretion he has no public speeches or articles published.

'Along with the intellectual contribution that he has given to the Church. Benedict has also left us a beautiful lesson, a human lesson, a virtue in humility, with his decision to step down. To recognize that the Church needed to have more physical stamina and energy at this moment in its life.â?
Now, one of the few ways to see what he has been up to is to follow his Facebook profile named, The Joseph Ratzinger Foundation, which includes photos like these of his recent private meetings.
