One of the 5 new saints that the Pope will canonize this year is José Gabriel Brochero. An Argentine known for his unflagging priestly work among the people of Cordoba in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He will be canonized on October 16, along with a teenage Mexican martyr, José Sánchez del Río.

'There are two ways of holiness, martyrdom and virtue, and two different ages. One dies of age after a lifetime dedicated to charity and to pastoral service, and a young man dies in a courageous act in defense of the faith.â?
Pope Francis called all priests, like Brochero, to be 'shepards living with the smell of the sheep.â? He visited the villages in the province of Cordoba on a mule, giving catechesis to simple people.
Jorge Mario Bergoglio pushed for his beatification from Buenos Aires. One of the last events he participated in before traveling to the conclave in 2013 was related to the gaucho priest.

'When you listen to the Pope, in his speeches, in his homilies, in his documents, many things he is saying are the same spirituality as Brochero. Now it is not known if the pope took the spirituality of Brochero or if Brochero was a little bit Jesuit because he preached the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius, who was a Jesuit. It is not known but some say the Jesuit nuance, embodied in the Argentine people, reaps fruit like Brochero and Pope Bergoglio.'
On October 16, in any case, there will be a particular Spanish accent in Rome, since the two canonized saints are embraced throughout Latin America, from Mexico to Argentina.
